The First dedicated Business Intelligence and Corporate Performance Management awards will take place at the Obis Omni Forum 16th September 2008.Download an awards entry form > Obis Omni, the information management community for business and IT professionals, today unveiled plans for its inaugural awards dinner. The awards ceremony is dedicated to recognising and showcasing Business Intelligence (BI) and Corporate Performance Management (CPM) best practice. Obis Omni is inviting UK companies operating in Financial Services, Manufacturing, Retail, Professional Services and the Public Sector to nominate their successful BI and CPM projects to the Champions Awards 2008. Each submission will be assessed by an independent panel of judges made up of four leading business intelligence experts - Eleanor Windsor, the Obis Omni Advisory Board, Mark Whitehorn, Research Associate, Cambridge University, Philip Howard, Research Director, Bloor Research and Nick Hussey, CEO, SayOne Media Ltd. The panel will judge each entry against a number of criteria including:
The judges will choose the company exhibiting the most outstanding example of business intelligence and corporate performance management best practice in each of the five business sectors (Financial Services, Manufacturing, Retail, Professional Services and the Public Sector). In addition one award will be given to an overall winner who the judges consider best exemplifies the characteristics of "Business Intelligence and Corporate Performance Management Champion 2008". "We want to identify the UK's business intelligence and Corporate Performance Management champions; companies that have raised the bar in terms of the whole lifecycle of their project - from planning right through to implementation, said Philip Howard, Research Director, Bloor Research. "I believe these awards are particularly relevant in the current economic climate. Businesses are facing an ever increasing mountain of data, but companies who successfully manage this data can gain a competitive edge by improving their decision making and strategic planning." Companies wishing to nominate one of their projects for an award or to attend the Forum should contact Andy Tyrrell andy.tyrrell@obisomni.com Obis Omni Champions Awards 2008 Judges: Eleanor Windsor, Head of Business Intelligence, Osborne Clarke Since joining Osborne Clarke in 1999, she has operated as an internal consultant and project manager working on a wide variety of projects including knowledge management, setting up and opening two European offices, various IT projects and a review of management information (MI). In 2005 Eleanor became head of the new Business Intelligence function in the firm, continuing much of the work she started in the MI programme and formally bringing together a team of people to help support management in making more informed business decisions, measuring performance across the firm, identifying new business opportunities and providing comprehensive and cutting edge analysis. Eleanor gained her MBA in 2000. Dr Mark Whitehorn, Research Assosiate, Cambridge University On the academic side Mark holds a research position at Cambridge University where he is involved in an international project analysing the hitherto unknown data that was available to Darwin before he wrote 'The Origin of Species'. Philip Howard, Research Director, Bloor Research After a quarter of a century of not being his own boss Philip set up his own company in 1992 and his first client was Bloor Research (then ButlerBloor), with Philip working for the company as an associate analyst. His relationship with Bloor Research has continued since that time and he is now Research Director focused on Data Management. Data management refers to the management, movement, governance and storage of data and involves diverse technologies that include (but are not limited to) databases and data warehousing, data integration (including ETL, data migration and data federation), data quality, master data management, metadata management and log and event management. Philip also tracks spreadsheet management and complex event processing. In addition to the numerous reports Philip has written on behalf of Bloor Research, Philip also contributes regularly to IT-Director.com and IT-Analysis.com and was previously editor of both "Application Development News" and "Operating System News" on behalf of Cambridge Market Intelligence (CMI). He has also contributed to various magazines and written a number of reports published by companies such as CMI and The Financial Times.
